Fear Itself: The Election of 1940

Background: It is December 1939. The impact of the Great Depression still reverberates across the United States and the globe. The global economy sputters and starts, while the armies of Germany, Japan, and Italy have been unleashed. As the world stands on the edge of a knife, the upcoming 1940 presidential election has become a flashpoint for Americans to make a pivotal decision: should President Franklin Roosevelt run for an unprecedented third term?

In this simulation, each student will choose a “guest” to research and represent. There are two major portions to the project – the salon discussion itself, and a written component. Each will be worth 50% of your final exam grade.

The project will serve as the final exam for Semester I and is worth 20% of your overall Semester I grade.
