Scheduling Time in the Library

All teachers are welcome to bring classes into the library! Please check the Library Outlook Calendar, shared at the beginning of the year, and email Lindsey with your requested periods and dates. Also share your project details and how we can help assist you or provide research instruction. 

Checking Out Books, Chromebooks, and Chargers

  • All teachers are welcome and encouraged to visit the library to check out books! We purchase a wide variety of materials for various disciplines as well as books for pleasure reading. We also take suggestions for purchase; please email Lindsey Myers to request a book purchase for the library!
  • Chromebooks are available for students to check if they forgot their computer for the day. Chromebooks are not to be taken home and must be returned at the end of the school day. 
  • Computer chargers will be available for check out starting in October!

Streaming Services Access

SWANK digital video

This streaming service provides access to 100 feature films most commonly used in education. We have the ability to request up to 100 addtional titles each year. Click on the links below to create an account and learn more. Please note that only teachers can make accounts to Swank, and share unique links to videos with students. 

 

Academic Video Online

This streaming service is provided by Proquest, and gives access to almost 80,000 videos on a wide variety of topics. Documentaries, television shows from PBS and BBC, and much more! Students, faculty and staff can all locate and use videos on Academic Video Online. Login information is needed when off-campus. Please use the username and password for Proquest when accessing from off campus. 

Newspaper Access

SSA Library subscribes to digital editions of The New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, and the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. To access the New York Times, please create an account by following the directions below. Accounts will need to be renewed each year, so if you find that you are unable to access your account, please follow the same directions to renew. 

The Wall Street Journal and the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette have a generic username/password combination, available on the Passwords document linked at the top of this page.

DATABASE BASICS

SSA Senior School Library subscribes to numerous databases for use by students, faculty, and staff. The A-Z databases are listed on the main page of the library's website, but we also have broken down the databases for use by subject, as seen in the help pages listed on this page. 

OFF CAMPUS ACCESS

Most resources are available off campus. The database passwords google document lists all of the usernames and passwords need to access the databases while not at school. If you encounter any issues or are unable to access a database off campus, please email Mrs. Myers
